PODCAST from Sunday's show : featuring the poetry of Steve Dalachinsky
CLICK HERE: PODCAST LINK to hear last Sunday's show.
Steve Dalachinsky is a well known poet who came out of the Beat movement but whose work, of course, defies categorization. He has performed extensively all over the world. I met him in New York when i drove a delivery truck.. he was selling records and philosophy books on Spring Street.
This show will feature selections from Phenomena of Interference w Matthew Shipp, and Incomplete Directions(featuring great musicians such as Thurston Moore and Vernon Reid among others)
He has a new book out featuring poetry inspired by Charles Gayle.
This show will feature his poetry.... or as Steve mentioned that the French refer to it- "poesie musicale"
Here's a cool project Steve has contibuted to: "textimagepoem" - there are alot of other cool collaborations he's been involved in all over the web.

Lebanese parade down Broad Street this evening
on my way into WRIR this evening, saw a whole parade of cars, trucks, limousines and Stretch HUM V's.. all waving a RED GREEN AND WHITE flag with some type of tree in the center and honking... ((followed by some crazy white guy with a cigarrette pack in his sleeve and a sunburn who ran after them yelling crazy nonsense...)) a guy in a white tuxedo on the roof of the limo yelled "yeah man! god bless america! " then i saw the next few cars with women wearing Hijab driving and honking their horns, and all the cars had these red green and white flags... was this a Lebanese wedding parade? a surprise show of Lebanese pride? a show of outrage?
either way, i wish i had my camera...
( this may have actually been an Iraqi or Kuwaiti flag, they're pretty similar color schemes...)

Twilight of Empire

from the description at Perceval Press:
"Now that the Bush administration's occupation of Iraq has become more about enforcing the economic and political objectives of a corporate elite and less about disarming a dictator that used to be an American ally and had nothing to do with the tragedies of 9/11, a spirited and informed analysis of the conflagration -- and its various casualties -- is needed more than ever. Twilight of Empire fulfills that growing hunger for desperately needed on-the-ground truth and context far from the talking-head misinformation offered by conventional media outlets. "
i was searching for some alternatives to the mass media take on current affairs... so i just read the first 1/4 of this book. the book is available (along with some previews of the pages) here (or at your favorite local book store hopefully) (thanks sis! what a valuable gift this turned out to be!)
