Pulitzer prize winning photographer speaks at a cool program for young Journalists
Last week, I met Pulitzer Prize winning photographer, Melanie Burford (a native New Zealander and self proclaimed Kiwi) from the Dallas Morning News- She was speaking downtown at the Jefferson Hotel for the VHSL Championship Journalism Workshop awards luncheon that afternoon. Luckily, I was able to attend the event -& to hear her speak and see her photos. This event, and her speech and photography were both incredible and life affirming. Thanks to Lisa Giles (VHSL Championship Journalism Workshop coordinator) for allowing me to attend the event, and giving so much positive encouragement to these kids.. and thanks to Melanie Burford, for sharing her inspiring perspective with all the talented young journalists that day. Its great to see the importance of creativity and world awareness being passed on to the younger generations. And it makes me want to share more of that with people too. See her photography here: (NOTE many of these photos are very hard to look at- very emotional and graphic)
